Thursday 3rd October
- This lesson we were introduced to the basis of the preliminary task. We were told that we were to include three things within out shots so researched the key terms. Then as a group we thought about some ideas we could create for our preliminary task. Following this we created a story board to run alongside our preliminary task, containing the settings, timings, shots/angles and Mise en Scene.
Monday 7th October
- In this lesson we started filiming our shots for the preliminary task. However we didnt complete all of the shots so we would have to continue in our next lesson. Towards the end of this lesson we completed some theory on 'Tordorov's Narrative Theory', 'Laura Mulvey - The Male Gaze' and 'Stuart Hall - Reception Theory'. From this we were given homework. This was to created a blog post on each theory with examples. We would then be able to use this for revision later on when needed.
- My group and i went off to finish our preliminary task shot during this lesson. Once finishs we uploaded them onto the editing software and then began to edit them from shot to shot. As we were new to editing we spent some time getting to know the software and how to use it. Atfer we felt comfortable using the editing software we started to edit our shots together.
Thursday 10th October
- This lesson we were given the chance to catch up on work we were behind on. On the blog there was a list of things that were missing from blogs and what needed to be done. This lesson gave us the opportunity to get our blogs up to date. Once I was up to date we were able to shortly discuss the next task in which we were given, this was to re-create the opening to 'Juno' shot by shot so we watched the opening and followed this on to next lesson.
- All filming for the 'Juno' task should have been complete by now and should be in the middle of editing. Fortunelty we were up to date and in the middel of editing, however we weren't able to get all the scenes shot. Despite this we continued to edit our piece, making what twe had look as good as possible.
- This lesson we got into groups and disccused possible ideas for film openings that we could use in our final piece. Each group came up with a few ideas and then fedback to the class. One of the ideas my group came up with was a Romance based film, involving a montage of a couples time together, we took inspiration from the film 500 days of summer. I found this lesson very helpful towards creating our final piece. At the end of the lesson I was left with several ideas to use.
- By now everyone had some idea of what they would want their idea to be. However this lesson, due to the markin gof our blogs we were to focus on lookin gat feedback and then improving what we could.
- In the lessons leading up to this one we had been told our groups fo rou rfinal piece, created a storyboard and planned out a shooting scheduel. We had also been on a trip to the BFI (British Film Instution) in London. Throughout the day we learnt about what a professional film opening should include and also what it should look like. We watched several film openings, made by students like ourselves, and were given the opportuniy to feedback and take notes. This trip was very helpful and helped my group in makin gthe decision to incourporate our titles in our scenes.
- On this day me and my group members, along with our characters in our opening, went to one of our house's after school and go the majority of our filming done. The next day we used free lessons and our lunch time to film scenes that we couldnt film at our group members house.
- Throughout this time period me and my group members began and continued to edit our piece together. We began uploading all our shots onto the Premier Pro software and then deleted ones that we decided we didn't want (if they looked unprofessional, didn't fit our vision of what we wanted our opening to look like). We made these decisions also with the help of peers and our teachers opinions.
- Today I got feedback from my teacher and classmates. The feedback I got told me that one specific scene didn't fit the time period in which we had set our opening, with this in mind we decided to cut the whole scene, therefore having to film another one.
- Once my group and I were confident in our opening having made all possible improvments we thought of we decided to hold a feedback session. We found people in our year (who matched our target audience age) who were willing to spare their time and had them come to an empty classroom. Here we showed them the clip twice and then filmed their feedback. This helped us see further improvements and changed that could be made. Even though we had feedback we wanted to get some feedback from people who weren't of our target audience, therefore we showed our opening in form time and got various different opinions from different age ranges.
- I was now finally pleased with our final opening and the work we had done as a group. Doing this task I have learnt the most about editing, from how to use the software to being able to make an opening successful, even though there were still improvements that could've been made. If I was to do this project again I would know how to manage my time better and know what troubles to steer clear of. Now my film opening is finished I will now work on my evaluation questions with my group.
