Todorov's Theory

Todorov's Theory:

This states that each film has five stages. The five stages being:

. A state of equilibrium (order, normality-how it should be)
. Disruption of that order by an event disequilibrium
. Recognition that the disorder has occurred.
. Attempt to repair the damage done
. A return or restoration of a new equilibrium (may not be the original normality.

Todorov's Theory for Just go with it:

1. State of equilibrium:
Danny, lives the an easy life. He is a plastic surgeon, has lots of money and a good life over all. After getting burned in a previous relationship he has decides to avoid commitment by telling every girl he hooks up with that he is married. He does this regularly. Going by his decision of telling women he is married he finds himself lost with what to do when he meets a gorgeous young girl named Palmer. He thinks she could be the one, therefore he decides to dismiss his decision. This shows the first stage of Todorov's theory by showing us an normal everyday life and how things are everyday, the natural order.

2. Disruption by event:
Everything's going well until Palmer reviles she has found out that he is "married". She had been told by previous people Danny has hooked up with. Danny's plan is ruined and he cant get out of this one because he likes her too much. Aware that he wants to keep Palmer as she is the girl of his dreams he lies and tells her that he and his "wife" are getting a divorce. For Palmer to believe him she wants to meet her. He asks his assistant Katherine to pose as his wife and meet Palmer. During the meeting Katherine takes a call from one of her two children and Palmer assumes they are Danny's. She wants to meet them. This part of the film shows how the things have turned and are no longer how they used to be. Normality has been disrupted by and event.

3. Recognition of disruption:
Danny doesn't want to disappoint Palmer so therefore comes up with a plan. He organises a trip away in which his "wife" and two "children" can pose as a family in front of Palmer. He is hoping at the end of this it will all work out with him and Palmer. This shows Danny recognising what has gone wrong and what he needs to do in order to return to normality.

4. Attempt to repair damage:
The plan moves forward and Danny and Palmer go on a trip with Danny's fake "family". They all play along with the plan and all seems to go well. She is convinced. Meanwhile Katherine's old friend is staying in the same resort. She wants to impress her so asks Danny to return the favour and pretend to be her husband. The plan is working two ways but going well. This shows Katherine and her children going along with the plan and attempting to repair the damage. Also when things don't go as well as planned in the attempt to repair Danny steps in and works with the plan too.

5. A return or reformation of
Despite his hard attempt to try impress Palmer he and Katherine have grown fund of each other after the amount of time they have been spending together. They have got to know each other and have fallen for one another. Danny ends it with Palmer and realises Katherine is his dream girl and therefore dates her and get back to their normal lives. Even thought things didn't work out the way they were plan normality was still restore the way it was before instead of a new equilibrium. The characters get back to there normal lives.
